Beat and country music? You must be joking? It may seem ridiculous to look for country roots in beat music: The 1960s and everything they stood for appear to be galaxies away from the conservative traditionalism of the country establishment.

In his excellent book 'Say It One Time For The Broken Hearted,' English music journalist and writer Barney Hoskins traces country music's contributions to the development of soul music in the early '60s. So maybe it's also worth checking out the country in beat music?

Super!

Top CD! Saw many of those groups in the 1960s in the U.K.! The Searchers, the Spencer Davis Group, TheHollies - just to name a few! The Downliners Sect tracks are more than uncommon for this group but for me personal highlights on this great compilation!

Yeah!

Viele der Bands auf der CD habe ich damals in der Großen Freiheit live gesehen, aber mir war nie klar, was doch an Country Material aufgenommen wurde, da das ja eigentlich die Musik war, die wir nicht gehört hatten, ABER die CD macht Spaß von vorne bis hinten! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
