Revival Doo-Wop Music
Doo-Wop Music Is Timeless
Doo-Wop music is a timeless thing just like Rockabilly and Rock'n'Roll music. Based on the sound of the late 1940s harmony vocal groups often mixed with Rhythm & Blues and elements of Jazz, the Doo-Wop sound came to popularity by the mid-1950s. Regularly five voices were in charge, from the deep bass-voice up till the high falsetto mostly in a beautiful and bright vocal style.
From ballads to uptempo Doo-Wop with a Rock'n'Roll beat or even the classic accapella sound. You'll find them all on CDs and Vinyl Records here at Bear Family Records.
The First Doo-Wop Revival
The first concrete Doo-Wop revival already started in the early sixties but still counts as part of the original Rock'n'Roll era and therefore you won't find those groups under this category here. In this Revival category we wanna start with the late sixties when bands like Ruben & The Jets (incl. Frank Zappa!) and Sha Na Na doo-wopped themselves right into music skies even better than most hippie guitarists of the times.
And it didn't stop! In the first half of the 1970s Flash Cadillac & The Continental Kids and Showaddywaddy were on the floor. The Darts in the second half right into the eighties. They all helped to popularize Doo-Wop once again. As well as the legendary British TV shows 'Oh Boy' and 'Let's Rock' in 1979/80.
They all created a new wave of famous new Doo-Wop releases. Rocky Sharpe & The Replays, and later The Chaperals (on Bear Family's own label!) followed by The Chrystalaires to name but a few.
It's in fact wonderful timeless music which not only reminds one of "American Graffiti". It goes right into the middle of everyone's heart and invites you to dream a little. Bear Family offers the worldwide biggest mailorder program in this Revival category.
You will get Doo-Wop on CDs and DVDs formats as well as hot vinyl platters at 33rpm or 45rpm speed. Get your copies now!
