School is out - finally! After 'School Is In!' (BCD17668) here is the second part of school memories on Bear Family Records®, dedicated to the time off after school.
Stylistically, we provide the appropriate soundtrack with doo-wop, rhythm and blues, rockabilly and schmaltzy ballads.
Including Miss Georgia with Rockin' After School, Connie Francis' V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N, Chuck Berry and Vacation Time, Adam Faith performs High School Confidential and Bobby Mitchell and the Toppers lament the Schoolboy Blues.
Detailed, informative and humorous liner notes by Roland H. Rumtreiber, many illustrations in the booklet and carefully re-mastered recordings round off this retrospective.

School is out – at last! “No more books and studies; I can stay out late with my buddies … do the things that I wanna do!” Gary U.S. Bonds nails it with his summertime anthem. The infectious ‘live-party’ sound of Bonds’ Legrand record sets the pace for Bear Family’s sequel to ‘School House Rock Vol. 1 - School Is In!’ (BCD17668).

Ahh, school days. Arduous! Ambivalent! Sweet reminiscing and painful memories! During the 1950s, a new target species was developed - or busted down doors and demanded recognition after centuries of neglect: the teenager. They talked differently, dressed differently, acted weird, smelled funny, and were hard to get by. They seemed to rule their little universe.

One central gathering point to control them, study them, bully them, or try to coax them into usable directions was school. And school is where it all happens - boy meets girl; pimples cause nervous breakdowns; you can’t keep twitching due to itching; and you look for your place in life, your little self, your big dreams. School.

Miss Georgia’s echo-drenched garage rockabilly romp Rockin’ after School contrasts nicely with the big city production of Connie Francis’ twister V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N – gonna have a ball! Chuck Berry also reflects on Vacation Time, showcasing his Louis Jordan influence; Brit rocker Adam Faith offers a crisp version of the Killer’s High School Confidential – nice indeed!

Bobby Mitchell and the Toppers burst right in with the hard-rocking New Orleans shuffle Schoolboy Blues – what a stinging guitar solo! Reggie Perkins sings of the legendary High School Caesar. The B-movie by the same title is one of the most incredible high school flickers ever. Some of the critical ‘50s movies will be discussed in the CDs booklet, investigating the exploitation of the teenager in the media.

This new compilation not only complements ‘School House Rock Vol. 1 - School Is In!’ (BCD17668) but tops it with an even larger variety of styles – everything from doo-wop to rhythm and blues, from rockabilly to schmaltzy ballads. So, go! Get ‘School House Rock Vol. 2 - School Is Out!’.
