Various - Kraut!: Teil 4 - KRAUT! - Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979 (2-CD)

2-CD (trifold DigiSleeve) with 128-page booklet, 17 tracks. Total playing time approx. 150 min.

Four-part double CD series - comprehensive and first cross-label documentation of the only relevant German contribution to the international phenomenon of rock music. PLEASE NOTE: liner notes in German!
  • Progressive Rock from Germany!
  • Never before has there been a comparable compilation!
  • Towards the end of the 1960s, German bands began their first attempts to emancipate themselves stylistically from their US and British role models.
  • ProgRock and Pchychedelia from our country were initially smiled at internationally and disparagingly called 'Krautrock' by cult DeeJay John Peel, among others.
  • Unorthodox formations could not be pigeonholed, and so a scene with a wide musical range was created.
  • The fourth and final part is dedicated to the West Berlin scene of the day and presents popular bands such as Ash Ra Tempel, Lokomotive Kreuzberg, Agitation Free, Dissidenten, Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream alongside e.g. Karthago, Mythos, Emtidi, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Cluster, Harmonia, or Os Mundi.
  • Mostly remastered from digital tape copies by Marcus Heumann without wasting the original sound.
  • Compiled and commented on 128(!) pages by Burghard Rausch (DeeJay, vinyl collector, drummer, radio presenter/author and book editor).
With the release of the fourth and final issue, Bear Family marks the last milestone on the way to a comprehensive documentation of the history of popular music in Germany from the early 1960s to the mid-1980s.

With 'Kraut! Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979' we will release a double CD every three months in 2020 with a booklet of about 100 pages and biographies of each band, an exquisite selection of the exciting and influential bands of those days, some of which caused a sensation far beyond Germany.

The four editions are regionally structured. The fourth part deals with West Berlin. All editions are compiled by Burghard Rausch and commented on in detail (in German language). The publisher of several books on 'Rock in Germany', radio author and presenter, drummer (Agitation Free, among others), vinyl collector and DeeJay with enormous expertise has already been in charge of the NDW series for Bear Family.
We are convinced that 'Kraut!' will be the most comprehensive CD documentation of this era, which has shaped the history of rock music in Germany, licensed by various rights holders!

'Smash! Boom! Bang!' covers the complete history of Beat music in Germany on a total of 30 individual CDs; the CD documentation 'Für wen wir singen - Liedermacher in Deutschland' (‘For whom we sing – Singer/songwriters in Germany’), consisting of four triple CDs, describes the singer/songwriter scene with 274 individual songs, supplemented by the 10 CD box set 'Die Burg Waldeck Festivals 1964-1969'. And finally 'Aus grauer Städte Mauern - Die Neue Deutsche Welle 1977-1985', Bear Family's four-part double CD series with popular and weird sound examples and a total of about 600(!) pages of accompanying text.

"Various - Kraut!"

KRAUT! is a fine Krautrock cross-section in four editions, sorted by region - North, Central, South and Berlin, with the greatest hits, much long forgotten music and the most important songs.

At the end of the 60s, the Federal Republic of Germany developed a very individual and unique soundtrack to the social upheaval that was taking place at the same time. A large part of the young generation at that time revolted against the bourgeoisie, against the determining opinion sovereignty of the Springer press, against the bias of the media, against the muff under the gowns and against the general US-American guardianship. The breaking away from the Republic of the parents, but also the rejection of the real-existing socialism of the GDR, was accompanied by an additional resistance against the existing cultural values. Driven by the idea of finding a new path to a German identity in modern pop culture with penetrating curiosity and naive openness, musicians all over Germany went in search of a soundtrack that would be absolutely unique.

The social and musical roots of Krautrock lie in the time of the student revolt in the mid-1960s. With the emergence of psychedelic rock, hard rock and progressive rock, new special forms of rock music emerged worldwide - even sound visionaries like Karlheinz Stockhausen had a great influence. There were certainly overlaps with British prog rock bands. However, the creative approach of the Krautrock bands, who wanted to free themselves from international role models as well as fixed schemes of music making, was completely different. In general, it was a progressive basic idea, which expressed itself in strongly structured and freely improvised forms.

But the term 'Krautrock' was also a synonym for rock music from Germany, which did not want to give in to the mere imitation of rock 'n' roll or beat models from the English-speaking world. For a long time, 'Krautrock' was rather a collective term and a disparagingly used expression for everything that stomped Teutonic, i.e. wooden and bulky. The English music press also wanted to make fun of the growing self-confidence of German rock bands. Krautrock' stood for Teutonic meticulousness, ponderousness, pathos and rhythmic cramps in the German bands of the time. Nobody really had an exact definition, but everyone knew what was meant when it was mentioned - everything German was Kraut!

In the mid 70s the Krautrock boom ended as suddenly as it began and it took more than two decades to remember the qualities of that time. For since many techno musicians in the second half of the 90s referred to the Krautrockers' desire to experiment, Krautrock experienced a renaissance. The revival was nourished by various re-releases of old records.

Burghard Rausch, born in 1947, born in Berlin: DJ, radio presenter, author and music journalist - among others for RIAS-Berlin, Radio Bremen and ByteFM - vinyl collector and drummer (Agitation Free, Bel Ami), co-author of 'Stationen - Die Trends der Rock-Epoche Mitte der 80er' (with Joachim Deicke), co-author of the 'Rockmusik- Lexikon' (with Christian Graf), editor, compiler, biographer and author of the four-part CD series 'NDW - Aus grauer Städte Mauern' (NDW - From grey cities walls)

Presse Archiv - KRAUT! •* *Alan Tepper

Presse Archiv - KRAUT! - Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979 - keys and chords
Presse Archiv - KRAUT!

Doch Michael Rother, Achim Reichels geniale A.R. Presse Archiv - KRAUT! - Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979 - musicstreetjournal.com Kraut!: Teil 2 - KRAUT! - Die innovativen Jahre des Krautrock 1968-1979 Review by Gary Hill As you might guess, this is the second part of a series of various artists releases focusing on Krautrock. I reviewed the first one previously. As good as that one was, this might be stronger. Not everything here is prog, but given the connection between the Krautrock movement and progressive rock, and the fact that much of this does land under that heading, that's where I've put this. The music here is largely on the very strong side. The set is so nice with a book included, that I've done a video for our YouTube channel showcasing it.

Presse Archiv - KRAUT!
