So – our latest addition to Bear Family Records’ popular ‘Destination Series’: Bermuda – brings you a wide array of Latin rhythms (not native to Bermuda), some rough rock and roll, and even a souped-up hillbilly bopper by none other than Marlon ‘Madman’ Mitchell – who recorded one single for Vena Records and drifted off into obscurity (hopefully not into the Bermuda Triangle).

Featured prominently on our compilation are the islands’ own Talbot Brothers—or The Talbot Brothers of Bermuda, as they are better known. Their light, breezy brand of calypso is represented by Bermuda’s Still Paradise, a dash of merengue with Bermudian Blues, and four other titles from their extensive Talman Records catalog.

The Crew Cuts come along full throttle, rhumbaing their way to Bermuda. “I see her lips on a coral” is one of the lines that stick to your mind and make you want to jump in the ocean and search for that beauty – lustful sojourn if there ever was one.

You can also find songs about the beloved Bermuda Shorts: A delightfully deranged example is presented by 60s madmen The Dovells. Their Betty in Bermudas features a Farfisa organ that makes Sam the Sham sound sedated…
