This music was hardly played on the radio or at the dance school - if at all, it was played at Dampmann's caterpillar track or bumper cars at the funfair.

The Krauts Are Rockin' - how could it ever come to this?

German Rock ‘n‘ Roll from the '50s and early '60s evokes ambivalent emotions, separated mothers from daughters, brothers from sisters and fathers from sons - the spirit of Rock ‘n‘ Roll was as important as our daily bread for the youth in post-war Germany. Hail, Hail Rock 'n' Roll - Deliver Me from The Days of Old the prophet had once proclaimed. The music industry quickly locked the wild teens in the pop cage, the really rough escapees came to the mood cannons of the funfair front. Until today, the 50s are presented to us as a pastel-colored fairy tale land, in which there is no place for rockers, teenagers and the rebellion of a generation against mendacity, oblivion and smugness.

Bear Family Records presents a compilation away from the big hits, wanderlust and grotesque trivialization of youth. The great Billy Sanders is there, Bernd Spier with his German version of No Particular Place to Go and the great garage rockabilly Hey Baby by the Rockin' Stars - the record with a difference! Some of the songs make you think you've put on an old Rock ‘n‘ Roll sampler. Here it's strumming, screaming and rocking. Everything comes out - you can hear the Framus, Höfner and Echolette boxes glowing.

Ja, das ist REAL German Rock & Roll!

Ich habe ja schon viele deutschsprachige CDs – gerade im Rock & Roll Bereich – auch von Bear Family – so u.a. 'Rock In Germany', 'Surf In Germany' , 'Jive In Germany', viele mehr und diverse von anderen Labels, aber keine von diesen Veröffentlichungen hat mich wirklich überzeugt, da sie immer auch etwas biederes hatten und 'witzige' Texte die heute allenfalls Schenkelklopfer bei Opa hervorrufen! Niemand hat sich bisher mal die Mühe gemacht eine WIRKLICHE Rock & Roll Zusammenstellung zu machen - es ist oft immer wieder derselbe Kram genommen worden und sogenannte 'Musikexperten' haben die Meinung verbreitet und verbreiten sie immer noch das Rock & Roll Ende der 50er / Anfang der 60er Jahre aufgehört hat und ich kann nur sagen, dass trifft nicht zu! Viele der richtigen Rocker sind eigentlich erst in der Anfangszeit des Beat entstanden und haben sich da erst von dem biederen image freigemacht! Wer behauptet das träfe nicht zu, ist ahnungsbefreit und soll sich bitte mal 'Rhythm & Blues und Johnny' anhören oder die Six Tornados, die Rattles und viele andere auch! Das ist definitiv die BESTE ZUSAMMENSTELLUNG auf dem Markt und die fetzt wirklich von Anfang bis Ende! Es gab Rock & Roll in Deutschland und das ist der Beweis - Rock & Roll ist ein Gefühl und das wird hier vom ersten bis zum letzten Titel transportiert!

Keine Tanzschulen-Musik für Ku’damm 63!

Die „Bear Family“ hat für ihre neue Serie ´Rockin‘ With The Krauts – Real Rock ’n‘ Roll Made In Germany´ 33 solcher Titel ausgegraben, von denen es vier erstmals überhaupt auf einen Silberling geschafft haben.

Dies ist keine Tanzschulen-Musik für Ku’damm 63, sondern Raum für echte Rocker, für Halbwüchsige und Aufbegehrende, die gegen die Spießigkeit der Gesellschaft ankämpfen. Es erscheinen natürlich auch populäre Musiker wie Ted Herold, Paul Würges und Billy Sanders, aber auch überraschendes wie die deutsche Version von ´No Particular Place To Go´ von Bernd Spier oder Formationen wie STARFIGHTERS, SIX TORNADOS, ROCKING STARS oder FRANKIE & THE ROCKETS.
