Two shellac collectors from Brighton were inspired by the beat of the big bands and the hot swing rhythms of the 1930s and 1940s, and created a 10'' series that brings together selected treasures from the local archives.

Since the two regularly organise DJ evenings and a monthly radio programme on the subject under the title "Swingin' Dick's 78 Social", "Swingin' Dick's Shellac Shakers" is nothing less than an edition put together by experts. In the words of Dick: "This compilation of 78's will have you jumpin' and jitterbugging to the sounds of a bygone era, in all it's gramophonic glory."

The series is released by Stag-O-Lee, and as is typical for the label's vinyl series, every second record is followed by a CD that bundles the two previous releases. The CD contains - in the order of the original track listing - a total of 20 tracks by Charlie Barnet, Horace Henderson, Stuff Smith, Gene Krupa, Sidney Bechet, Cab Calloway and their orchestras.
