For all lovers of black vinyl, Bear Family founder Richard Weize presents a genuine treasure trove of discoveries and rarities for eyes and ears. Hardcover book with 72 full-color pages (21 × 26 cm), including three CDs with a total of 45 tracks—produced in cooperation with the Günter Neumann Foundation for the …And More Bears Library.

Gramophones and records were once standard fixtures in middle-class living rooms. Their evolution from children’s toys to serious forms of entertainment and cultural mediation is a true success story. “Records, you round ones—you brighten our hours,” wrote poet Joachim Ringelnatz. At the same time, gramophones and records were often treated with irony—in revues, cabaret, radio broadcasts, and advertising.

In the style of their respective eras, popular songs and the grooves that carried them form a kind of time capsule, radiating a peculiar fascination in every age. “Put the needle on once more, play me something to pass the time—it sounds like reality, yet it’s only a disc,” concluded Günter Neumann.
