Bear Family Records® presents 31 songs from five decades, created between 1939 and 1973, which deal with the chilly season.
From snowstorms, skiing and snowmen to the nordic aurora: these are the themes of winter - and the music is just as varied: from easy entertainment and pop to country music, and from blues to jazz, doo-wop and rock 'n' roll!
Well-known artists like the Kingston Trio, Marty Robbins, Faron Young, Hank Snow, Georgia Gibbs or the great Hank Williams meet with unknown colleagues here.
Several recordings appear for the first time on CD, such as both sides of an extremely rare 78 record by the British Frederic Curzon Orchestra, which also provides the title track for this CD!
Two rare recordings come from the German-speaking countries: a vocal tune by Austrian alpine skiing world champion and Olympic champion Toni Sailer and an instrumental by the Erhard Bauschke Orchestra.
In addition to unadulterated country music, which can be enjoyed particularly well by the open fireplace, western swing comes into the warm parlor with Tex Williams, Spade Cooley and Cliff Bruner.
A certain dose of rock 'n' roll is included to warm up the frozen limbs with artists like The Cheers, The Del Vikings, Lonnie Dee and The Belmonts!
The full-color booklet includes rare photos and memorabilia, as well as liner notes for each track, written by Marc Mittelacher.

Wintertime = time for suffering? No, not for winter sports enthusiasts, snowman fans - and certainly not for music freaks! Because here comes the ultimate winter CD as a warm-up after Christmas. Whether it's with a grog on the terrace, at the après ski party or by the fireplace with a hot drink in the cozy parlor, here's the perfect soundtrack!

Bear Family Records® has selected a number of rare recordings for this CD album - some appearing on CD for the first time, including both sides of an extremely rare 78 platter by Britain's Frederic Curzon in brilliant sound quality. With Hank Snow, Faron Young, Marty Robbins, Carl Smith and Hank Williams, there is also heartwarming country music for the listener's ears, while Spade Cooley, Tex Williams and Cliff Bruner deliver great western swing. Jazz and easy listening is covered by Peggy Lee, Benny Goodman, Nat 'King' Cole and Sarah Vaughan, rounded out by contemporary pop from icons like Georgia Gibbs, the Kingston Trio, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé. Cool blues comes from Lightnin' Slim and Albert Collins.

Hot rock 'n' roll to warm us up is provided by Bobby Chandler and The Escorts, Lonnie Dee and The Omegas with Earl Sinks, among others. The international scene is set with the Kim Sisters from Southeast Asia, the Austrian Olympic champion and multiple alpine skiing world champion Toni Sailer, the German dance orchestra led by Erhard Bauschke and the aforementioned Brit Frederic Curzon. The musical winter cocktail is now ready!

The CD comes with a 20-page color booklet, many rare photos and illustrations, as well as an accompanying text by producer Marc Mittelacher with comments on each song.
