First and foremost the classic 'My Funny Valentine', here the rare version of the Mary Kaye Trio with a Latin-influenced rhythm.
Also several jazz classics by Chet Baker, Stan Kenton, and Artie Shaw.
Delicate love classics by Frank Chacksfield and Paul Anka and a wealth of doo-wop songs by The Channels, The Skyliners and The Fleetwoods!
Sugar-sweet ballads by Ed Townsend, the Paris Sisters and Etta James alternate with rocking love sounds from the Aquatones, Tom Dorsam, Nancy Lee and the Swedish Violents.
Every second country song is about love, proofed by the legendary Hank Williams with Pee Wee King, Jimmy Wakely and Billy Walker.

It's all about love

February 14 is Valentine's Day, a date with a tradition - since there have been humans on this planet, there has been love and lovers.

The oldest surviving work for Valentine's Day is a rondeau from 1415, written by Duke Charles of Orleans to his wife, which begins: "I am already sick with love, my sweet Valentine, ...".

But not only poets and thinkers, but also composers and musicians dedicated themselves to the annual festival of love derived from Saint Valentine. This compilation is a homage to love. It includes songs about Valentine's Day and love songs, sometimes balladic, sometimes rocking, sometimes swinging, varied and cross-genre. A collection of very deep emotions!

My Funny Valentine

Since there are already countless cheap Valentine's Day compilations on the market, most are superficial and boringly often containing the same titles, we decided to offer a nice alternative dedicated not only to lovers, but also to those who love their record collection. In addition to a number of classics - think of Paul Anka, Guy Mitchell or Kitty Kallen - there are also plenty of rarities to be found here, some released on CD for the first time. We have been on the move historically (music from four decades) and in many different directions.

The repertoire ranges from ballads and pop to rock 'n' roll and country to flawless jazz. Especially sweet ballads like 'I Love How You Love Me' by the Paris Sisters or 'Love Me Forever' by Jodie Sands invite you to dream, as well as a number of doo-wop songs from the good old days. In conjunction with beautiful country numbers, Hank Williams' 'Baby, We're Really In Love' was an absolute must! Of course, the classic 'My Funny Valentine' should not be missed, here in the rare version of the Mary Kaye Trio, while Chet Baker's sensitive trumpet lets enjoy togetherness. Since this exciting music inspires both sexes, it is also the ideal gift for Valentine's Day. Because love should be 'Forever', as Billy Walker sings to the brilliant end. The CD comes with the producer's annotations for each song, as well as many photos and illustrations in the 16-page booklet!

Sehr schöne Zusammenstellung, aber warum ist 'Love Is In The Air' von John Paul Young nicht drauf?

Gelungene Compilation

Wieder einmal ist den Leuten von Bear Family Records eine interessante und geschmackvolle Zusammenstellung von Songs gelungen. Die Songs decken einen Zeitraum vom 1936 – 1964 ab, wobei die meisten der Lieder aus den Fünfzigern, Anfang der Sechziger sind. Darunter einige wirkliche Perlen wie Mary Kaye Trio, die Paris Sisters, Stan Kenton mit Anita O'Day, "I Just Want To Make Love To You" von Arthur Prysock und vieles mehr. Bin gespannt, was den Burschen und Mädels von Bear Family sonst noch einfällt. Vor kurzem sind ja auch erst die fantastischen Zusammenstellungen Destination Lust Vol. 1 & 2 erschienen, die ich hier auch sehr gerne empfehle.
