Werner Müller was born on 02.08.1920 in Berlin. As a child he received piano and violin lessons. During his military service he served in a music corps. After the war he became acquainted with American swing. In 1949 Werner Müller took over the direction of the RIAS Dance Orchestra in Berlin.
The instrumentation with wind and string instruments shaped the style of his dance orchestra. For the sports reports of the Deutsche Wochenschau, he recorded the title Sport und Musik (Sports and Music), which was soon known to every moviegoer. Werner Müller accompanied stars such as Caterina Valente, Rita Paul, Mona Baptiste and Bully Buhlan with his orchestra.
He was also very successful as a composer. In 1967, Müller moved to the WDR Tanzorchester in Cologne. He accompanied many radio and television broadcasts with his orchestra. Werner Müller was also successful abroad, although often under the pseudonym Ricardo Santos, since his civil name was difficult to pronounce in many languages because of the umlaut. Especially his tango titles enjoyed great popularity worldwide.

Werner Müller
Der Berliner Werner Müller (geboren 1920) war in den 50er Jahren neben Kurt Edelhagen einer der bekanntesten Jazz-Orchesterleiter. Schon als Kind spielte er Geige, kam 1936 auf die Militärmusikschule in Bückeburg und war im Krieg Mitglied eines Militär-Musikcorps. In amerikanischer Gefangenschaft entdeckte er den Swing für sich und wurde 1945 als Posaunist in das Orchester von Kurt Widmann aufgenommen. Den Durchbruch schaffte Müller, als ihm 1949 die Leitung des RIAS-Tanzorchesters übertragen wurde. Dort versammelte er hervorragende Musiker wie Rolf Kühn um sich.
In den 50er Jahren bestimmte sein Sound viele Plattenproduktionen, unter anderem für Polydor und Teldec. Er begleitete Bully Buhlan, Renée Franke, Gerhard Wendland, Margot Hielscher, Rudi Schuricke, Friedel Hensch und die Cyprys, Lale Andersen, Caterina Valente und viele andere. Als Komponist gebrauchte er das Pseudonym Heinz Buchholz. In den 80er Jahren schrieb Werner Müller verschiedene Kriminalromane. Er starb 1998 in Köln.
