Werner Hass

Werner Hass was born on 1927 in Gdansk. At the end of the war the family fled to Denmark, where Werner Hass and his sister Ilse received their first singing lessons. But the family returned to Berlin in 1947. In the post-war period Werner Hass performed together with his sister Ilse in Berlin dance halls. In the 50's the two belonged to the most popular Schlager stars of Berlin. They published a number of successful Schlager songs in the American big band sound on the East German Amiga label. Their hits in the American swing sound soon aroused the displeasure of the GDR leadership. Their records were no longer allowed to be played on the radio.


In 1958 their record contracts were cancelled and there followed a ban on performing in the GDR. The brothers and sisters were now forced to orient themselves to the West. At the Cologne "Tefifon" they could publish first new recordings. Werner Hass applied with different West German record companies and already in 1957 with his first "West-Single" he was able to pick up old successes again. From 1960 he also sang numerous cover versions of current hits under the names Bob Gerry and Pat Hardy. At the beginning of the 60's he found a connection to the Berlin cabaret scene and appeared with the "Insulanern" and presented the first programs of the "Klingenden Sonntagsrätsels" at the radio station RIAS Berlin. From 1973 he worked in the "Künstlerförderung des Berliner Senats" and was responsible for the programs of many Berlin events. Werner Hass died at the end of February 2017.
