The Ventures were launched in 1960 after two construction workers, Bob Bogle and Don Wilson discovered a common interest in the guitar while working together on a building site in Seattle. Wilson's mother had to set up a record label before their first single Walk Don't Run could find a sympathetic backer, but this unconventional launching pad didn't stop the single making it to number one in Australia. This album presents twenty of The Ventures' greatest recordings.

Instrumental; Gruppe gegründet 1958 von Nokie Edwards (Leadgitarre), Don Wilson (Gitarre), Bob Bogle (Bass) und Howie Johnson (Schlagzeug). Mit'Walk - Don't Run' auf Dolton 25 im Jahr 1960 (ursprünglich erschienen auf Blue Horizon 101 im Jahr 1959), und obwohl sie nicht viele andere große Hit-Singles hatten (die Ausnahme war'Hawaii Five-O', eine Nr.4 im Jahr 1969), haben sie mehr als 100 Millionen Alben verkauft, was sie zur meistverkauften Instrumentalgruppe überhaupt macht.

Es hilft, dass sie auch in Japan sehr beliebt sind! Johnson wurde 1961 durch Mel Taylor ersetzt. Edwards wurde 1967 durch Gerry McGee ersetzt, kehrte aber 1972-85 und Ende 1996 wieder in die Gruppe zurück. Taylor wurde durch Joe Barile 1973-78 ersetzt.

Taylor starb 1996 und Bogle 2009.
