Various - Western: How The West Was Won (CD)
One of the greatest stories ever told: the opening up of the American west in the words and songs of the pioneers. Some of the greatest pop and folk singers of our time lend their talents to some of the greatest story songs of all time! The original double LP is one of the rarest LPs ever made, produced 1960 in conjunction between RCA and 'Life' magazine. Now reissued complete in premium restored 'Living Stereo' sound!
This is the sort of grand project in which Bear Family excels. It's stories and songs that recount the opening up of the American west. It's the pioneers who staked their lives on a dream. The songs are sung by some of the greatest pop singers of our time, including Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, and some of the greatest folk singers of our time, including Sam Hinton and Jimmie Driftwood. The original double LP was inspired by the stories that appeared in 'Life' magazine, and those same stories were later adapted into the famous 1962 movie epic, directed by John Ford and starringHenry Fonda, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, and many others.
As always at Bear Family, it's RARE and WELL-DONE at the same time!

Western CD-Album-Series with Country and Western CDs
These collections give you an overview of songs that were memorable elements of post-War westerns in cinemas and on TV. Along with established ‘veterans’ of the genre like Johnny Horton, Roy Rogers and Johnny Cash there are unexpected singing (with more or less success…) cowboys like James Stewart, Kirk Douglas or the ‘Bonanza’ cast.
The booklets, brimming with period art from posters and lobby cards, are the perfect visual companion to the music. Popcorn not included.
JOHN WAYNE’S WEST - IN MUSIC AND POSTER ART
A man and an actor as big as JOHN WAYNE deserves a tribute like this! John Wayne was America. And America – in fact, the entire world – has not forgotten John Wayne. Thirty years after his death, the man known as 'Duke' still ranks among the Top Three most popular American film stars of all time.
More than any other actor, he chose roles that glorified traditional American values and would not compromise his personal image. "Don't apologize," he said in 'She Wore A Yellow Ribbon,' "it's a sign of weakness." That was John Wayne, and that's the John Wayne celebrated here in the music and poster art from his many memorable western movies.
Apart from 10 CDs of movie songs and original soundtracks and a DVD with movie trailers this set includes a fabulous 464-page full-colour hardcover book with a biography by Richard W. Bann plus movie posters, lobby cards, stills and other memorabilia from every western movie John Wayne appeared in (incl. many rare posters from around the world). Plus a complete filmography and a selection of famous quotes from The Duke
Bing fällt in einen Erzählermodus (Look back - oh, that was long ago ....) und es folgen sehr alte Volkslieder wie Bound for the Promised Land, En roulant ma boule roulant oder das schöne Neumexikanische Lupita Divina ....
How the West was Sung" (Erzähler: Geo.
