Charles Kemmons Wilson founded his first hotel in 1952 under the “Holiday Inn” brand, which still exists today; more hotels quickly followed in the U.S., with the first international locations opening in 1960, and by the late 1960s there were around 1,000 branches in the U.S. alone. In the early 1960s, he even founded his own in-house rock ‘n’ roll record label with his partner Doyle Wayne Foster after the latter discovered the band The Roller Coasters, who played as instrumentalists on most of the recordings.
