As far as collectors and music historians are concerned, Jo Ann Campbell is one of the great female rockers of the late '50s. Like Wanda Jackson and Janis Martin, Campbell was recording real rock 'n' roll at a time when most of her contemporaries were churning out lovesick teenage mush. Her rockin' pedigree is not on display on 'A Kookie Little Paradise', essentially a 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' for teens, but the song did put her on the charts following an artistically impressive but hitless period with the Gone and Roulette labels. Unusual for the period, two singles were released simultaneously: a stereo under-dub and a mono version which included sound effects that were added during the mix-down. Unfortunately the master tapes have been lost, so for this release we have used ultra-clean vinyl sources and synchronized the mono and stereo versions so that, for the first time ever, 'A Kookie Little Paradise' is presented in stereo with the original 'Tarzan' yells.
