The obscure Felsted label, founded in 1954 in the U.K. and three years later in the U.S., was known primarily for its pop and crooner recordings.
But Felsted has released a considerable number of great rockers.
Bear Family Records® is the first label to make an effort to detail the history of rockabilly and rock 'n' roll of the 1950s and early 1960s on Felsted, a mix of rockabilly, rock 'n' roll, doo-wop rockers and rockin' instrumentals!
Included are the extremely rare singles by Vince Maloy with the real version of 'Soda Pop' (on Felsted), LaVern Stovall and by Frank and, Jack and The Nightwinds.
Three tracks are available on LP for the first time!
The CD comes with 21(!) bonus tracks, eight of which are on CD for the first time.
As always, Bill Dahl has collected a lot of background information for the booklet.

Felsted Records wasn't your standard-issue rock and roll label. The imprint was a subsidiary of the London logo, itself an offshoot of the British Decca label founded way back in 1929. Felsted was launched in the U.K. in 1954 and in the U.S. in late 1957. American Felsted focused on capturing a younger pop audience than its parent company, primarily licensing in masters rather than producing its own.

A fair amount of its output was exciting rock and roll that for the most part didn't sell all that well despite having some real fire. This fascinating collection boasts more than its share of blazing rockers by Vince Maloy, Andy Anderson, Ritchie Hart, Charlie Gracie, Bobby Russell, Myron Lee and The Caddies, Bill Taylor, The Jiv-A-Tones, The Casualteens, The Spacemen, and plenty more, shedding new and welcome light on a vintage label overlooked by reissuers for much too long!

The sound is nice and raw – much more like some Memphis indie than you'd guess from Felsted!!

A totally wonderful package, and one that offers a deep dip into the surprisingly strong rock and roll side of the Felsted label! Felsted is best known as the home to pop hits, jazz artists, and easy listening records – but the company also managed to record some killer singles in the early years of rock and roll – most of which we'd never heard before this fantastic set! The package is as cool as the music itself – a perfect presentation of raw rockers that has 13 tracks on a 10" vinyl release, and a whopping 34 titles on the CD that's included in the package – along with a full color booklet of label scans and notes on the music! The sound is nice and raw – much more like some Memphis indie than you'd guess from Felsted – and the set includes work by The Five Fleets, DC Washington, David Orrell, The Admiral Tones, Charlie Gracie, The Roosters, LaVern STovall, Mickey Michaels, Vince Maloy, and many others.
