When the scheduled appearance of top Nashville musicians at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival was cancelled due to riots, RCA Victor quickly arranged an impromptu session on the lawn of a Newport villa. In this exclusive performance, the Nashville All-Stars revealed their genuine affinity for jazz, free from commercial expectations. Later that same year, RCA released seven of the tracks on the album After The Riot At Newport, featuring Chet Atkins, Hank Garland, Boots Randolph, and Gary Burton, supported by seasoned session players such as Floyd Cramer, Brenton Banks, Bob Moore, and Buddy Harman.

The album was available only briefly and soon became a sought-after collector’s item. Recordings that did not fit on the original LP were consigned to archives and largely forgotten—until now. This new book edition includes an account by Dave Samuelson on the Newport Jazz Festival, the musicians involved, and the riots that prematurely ended the event, along with many rare photos and illustrations and an essay on Jim Flora’s striking cover design. The CD contains the newly remastered original album plus eight additional tracks, three of them featuring the jazz vocal group Andy & The Bey Sisters.
