Otis Spann is widely recognized as one of the greatest blues pianists of all time. Although Spann had already made a name for himself in Chicago by the mid-1940s, it wasn't until 1960 that he got the opportunity to record his own album.

Otis Spann Is The Blues is not only the first solo album Otis Spann ever recorded, but also the first album recorded for the young New York label Candid Records. Stripped down to just the two musicians, this great set puts Spann's voice and piano front and center.
