Stan Oliver was born Kieth Engen on 05.04.1925 in Irazee, Minnesota, U.S.A.. The American singer and son of Norwegian emigrants studied classical singing in California, later in Zurich and Vienna. After his training, he first worked as a bass, but soon made his debut as an opera singer in Florence under the direction of Gustaf Gründgens.

Kieth Engen sang at the Bayreuth Festival and opera performances throughout Europe. From 1955 he was permanently engaged at the State Opera in Munich. In addition to his work as an opera singer, he recorded a number of singles in the 1950s under the pseudonym Stan Oliver.

His biggest chart successes were "Ein Haus in Havanna" (1956,number 13) and "Das Geisterschiff vom Ohio" (1956, number 29). He also appeared in various films, including "Das alte Försterhaus" (1956), "Bonjour, Kathrin" (1956) and "Der kühne Schwimmer" (1957).
