For the countless number of teenagers who were exposed to popular music between the mid-fifties and mid•sixties, The Everly Brothers created a very special place for themselves (and their harmonies) which remain as vivid today as twenty years ago.

Even by the standards of the burgeoning record industry their success was phenomenal, taking in seven top ten hits in just three years. Of course The Everly Brothers were professionals from a true showbusiness family and had performed regularly on their parents' radio shows in Knoxville, Tennessee. The key to their success was the outstanding combination of their vocal talent coupled with the superb material of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and indeed the guiding hand of Wesley Rose, of the Nashville based Acuff-Rose publishing house. It was Wesley Rose who first steered the brothers towards Cadence Records in New York and the beginning of their outstanding run of hits.

In 1960 the boys signed to Warner Brothers in a deal which was a record breaker in its own right at the time. But Warner Brothers needed to get into the huge pop and rock market and The Everlys were an ideal vehicle, with their first release being the classic 'Cathy's Clown', clearly illustrating the point. Of course the times and music tastes were changing fast and by the mid-sixties The Everlys achieved their last hit with 'Love Is Strange'. However both the brothers and Warners knew that they could not ignore the changes and serious attempts were made to broaden the style and repertoire of The Everlys . To their credit Warners brought in many top session players to experiment with the brothers and, although virtually all of these takes were put down on tape, very few saw a release. However, it is this very material which is contained on this album and which is not only outstanding in its own right but fills an important gap in the discography of the duo. Beyond this album little more remains to be released from their Warner Brothers period but with The Everlys performing together again after a decade their star is once again in the ascendant
