King Curtis was THE R&B sax player in the late '50s and early '60s. They'd cancel sessions if they couldn't get him. He made some highly regarded solo recordings too, and the rarest have always been the Capitol sides from the early '60s. There were some big hits, like Soul Twistand the classic Soul Serenade, and they're here of course, together with all the other singles, the four original LPs, and 16 previously unissued cuts. The roots of his justly acclaimed Atlantic LPs can be heard in songs like Memphis, Watermelon Man, Night Train, Something You Got, and in his Sam Cooke tributes.
