Burlesque: Two cult albums available digitally and on CD for the first time Almost five decades after their original release, the two albums by British band Burlesque are being released digitally and on CD for the first time. The recordings have been carefully remastered and offer a sonically revamped insight into the musical work of a band that was considered an insider tip on the British club scene in the 1970s.
Founded in 1972 by saxophonist and singer Ian Trimmer and guitarist Billy Jenkins, Burlesque combined elements of punk, new wave, jazz, art rock, and comedy to create a unique style.
The band gained its first stage experience as the opening act for Thin Lizzy before touring renowned clubs such as the Marquee and Dingwalls. Their first album, Acupuncture, was released in 1977 on Arista Records and was produced by Muff Winwood, who also worked with Dire Straits and Sparks, among others. It is a live album, recorded during a tour with
the Kursaal Flyers and Be Bop Deluxe. The studio album “Burlesque,” produced by George Haslam, followed in the same year. Despite positive reviews, the band broke up shortly thereafter. With this re-release, both albums are now available to a new audience—a piece of British music history that has long been difficult to obtain.
