True blues is no longer a novelty. Here are 16 electrified post-war smashes, recorded between Chicago and New Orleans, which often only had a short life as 7" singles and are now coveted collector's items.

This music was played in sweaty clubs and at house rent parties in the 50s and early 60s. And you can still dance to it today, because all the tunes are fast, rough and designed to get the crowd moving. Full five stars for the fifth release in the Rockinitis series! These compilations showcase the raw and wild sounds of rocking electric blues from the 1950s and early 1960s. On the A-side, R-Man, head of the Stag-O-Lee label, is back with another eight dirty blues dance tracks to which the Tailfeather must be shaken. Two tunes each from killer labels such as Excello, Groove, Herald and Chess / Checker.

Tested for suitability in various clubs. Donna Driscoll, a long-time connoisseur and collector of Northern Soul and R&B from London, plays the flipside.
