Things have been a bit quiet lately around Ace’s small but steadily growing “Black America Sings…” series, but it’s now making a comeback with the double LP and CD “Highway Of Diamonds”—a second exploration of Bob Dylan’s work, reinterpreted by some of the most significant African American artists of the 20th century.

Even early in his career as a songwriter, Dylan’s lyrics and music shaped the African American music scene. “Blowin’ In The Wind” spoke to an America that was still largely segregated at the time and became an anthem for people of all skin colors and faiths. As Dylan’s career grew, so did the number of cover versions of his songs, many from rather unconventional sources, as can be heard here.

Names from soul, gospel, and jazz, timeless songs, and—for many—new ways to enjoy these classics make this compilation an equally indispensable purchase. As always, the superb sound is complemented by an elaborately designed CD and double-vinyl edition featuring numerous illustrations and detailed song and track-by-track commentary by Ace legend Tony Rounce.
