Dallas Turner: 25 Cowboy Classics (CD)
At a young age Dallas Turner listened intently to the cowboy singers that he heard on Border Radio, being particularly influenced by Cowboy Slim Rinehart. A self-taught guitar player, at age 16 he left his home in 1946 to follow his dream of becoming a Border Radio Star. Tuner rode the bus to the Mexico Border where he landed himself a job on the most powerful radio station in the world (XEG) and met his idol - Cowboy Slim Rinehart. Slim (also known as Nolan Rinehart) gave Dallas his first big break. Slim and Dallas took the radio world by storm performing alongside Jimmie Rodgers, Gene Autry, Roy Rodgers, Ernest Tubb, Patsy Montana and Wolfman Jack. Slim and Dallas were affectionately known as the Kings of Border Radio. Turner appeared on various radio programs on XERF, XELO and XEG, sometimes singing under his own name but usually under an alias such as Nevada Slim or Yodelin' Slim Dallas. He proved popular with sponsors of the programs, since he was a most competent 'pitchman' for their prod-ucts and became a favorite on Border Radio for 30 years. In the mid-60's, Turner recorded transcription programs that were broadcast by several important US stations including WWVA Wheeling and WCKY Cincinnati. DALLAS TURNER recorded eight albums for Rural Rhythm Records which were produced by Uncle Jim O'Neal. Rural Rhythm Records is proud to make some of these true cowboy historic original recordings from 1967 avail-able again. For-the First Time on CD and digital formats, Nevada Slim Singing The Songs Of The Wild West by Dallas Turner is an essential original master's collection of 25 Cowboy Classics culled from Turners true cowboy recordings on Rural Rhythm Records. Turner became acknowledged as a noted historian of Western material and Border Radio. He has also sung authentic cowboy material in documentaries and appeared at the annual Elko Cowboy Poetry Gatherings. In addition, Turner appeared on various radio and television programs and across countless venues including New York's Lincoln Center, the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall - sometimes singing under his own name, but usually under an alias such as Nevada Slim or Yodelin' Slim Dallas.
