Ronnie Smith was born on 12.12.1940 in Odessa, Texas! He made his first recordings in 1958 and recorded 'My Babe' and 'I've Got A Love' in Norman Petty's studio, which were released in the same year on the small 'Hamilton' label! More recordings followed for Imperial and Brunswick, among others, but Ronnie Smith never got the success he really deserved. Noman Petty placed great hope in the talented singer after the tragic death of Buddy Holly and wanted to build up a 'second Buddy Holly' with him, after Ronnie Smith had successfully taken over Buddy Holly's part in the 'Winter Dance Party' after the crash to which Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper fell victim. Unfortunately, commercial success did not materialize and Ronnie Smith realized over the years that the dream of being a successful musician had burst like a soap bubble. He began to take drugs, sniff glue and all attempts at therapy failed. On 25.10.1962 Ronnie Smith took his own life at the age of 22 and hanged himself in a bathroom! Ronnie Smith wurde am 12.12.1940 in Odessa, Texas, geboren! Seine ersten Schallplattenaufnahmen machte er im Jahre 1958 und spielte in Norman Petty's Studio 'My Babe' und 'I've Got A Love' ein, die im selben Jahr auf dem kleinen 'Hamilton' Label erschienen sind!

Weitere Aufnahmen folgten u.a. für Imperial und Brunswick, aber Ronnie Smith bekam niemals den Erfolg, den er eigentlich verdient hätte. Noman Petty setzte nach dem tragischen Tod von Buddy Holly große Hoffnung in den talentierten Sänger und wollte einen 'zweiten Buddy Holly' mit ihm aufbauen, nachdem Ronnie Smith nach dem Absturz, dem Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens und der Big Bopper zum Opfer gefallen sind, Buddy Holly's Part bei der 'Winter Dance Party'erfolgreich übernommen hatte.

Leider stellte sich aber kein kommerzieller Erfolg ein und Ronnie Smith realisierte mit den Jahren, dass der Traum vom erfolgreichen Musiker, wie eine Seifenblase zerplatzt war. Er begann Drogen zu nehmen, Klebstoff zu schnüffeln und alle Therapieversuche scheiterten. Am 25.10.1962 nahm sich Ronnie Smith im Alter von 22 Jahren das Leben und erhängte sich in einem Badezimmer!

Eine weitere tragische und talentierte Figur, der der kommerzielle Erfolg verwehrt blieb!
