A-sides, rare B-sides, classic hit singles like "Itchycoo Park," "Lazy Sunday," "Here Come The Nice," "Tin Soldier," "The Universal," "Afterglow Of Your Love" and more - for the first time ever, all single versions are included, remastered from recently discovered original mono master tapes by Matt Colton (Mastering Engineer Of The Year 2013 - MPG Awards).

The album was compiled in close collaboration with surviving Small Faces members Kenney Jones and Ian "Mac" McLagan and includes an exclusive cover photo by Gered Mankowitz, a full-color inner sleeve with complete track credits, and rare memorabilia and photos. "The Greatest Hits" continues the successful and critically acclaimed Small Faces Re-Masters series, released to celebrate the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

"SMALL FACES"

The Small Faces, im Gegensatz zu denjenigen, deren Mod-Image die Kreation ihres Managers war, um den Growirrg-Kult auszunutzen, waren wirklich Mods. Gegründet 1965 von Steve Marriott, geboren am 30. Januar 1947 (Gesang, Gitarre); Ronnie 'Plonk' Lane, 1. April 1946 (Bass); Jimmy Winston (Orgel) und Kenny Jones, 16. September 1948 (Schlagzeug), wuchs die Gruppe aus ihrer gemeinsamen Vorliebe für die Lieblingsmusik der Mods - R&B und Soul - und ihre erste Single 'Whatcha Gonna Do About It?'. (Decca), ein Hit im September 1965, übernahm das Riff aus Solomon Burkes'Everybody Needs Somebody To Love'.

Der Marriott-Lane Follow-up, I've Got Mine', erschien, als Ian McLagan - geboren am 12. Mai 1945 - Winston ersetzte, scheiterte, aber innerhalb von sechs Monaten waren sie Chart-Mehrjährige als Hey Girl', All Or Nothing' - ihre einzige Nr. 1 und wahrscheinlich ihre beste Platte - und My Mind's EYe' folgten einander in die Top Ten. Der Erfolg dieser Singles - allesamt Marriott-Lane Kompositionen - verband die Gruppe für immer mit den Top Ten, und trotz eines Labelwechsels und weniger offensichtlichem "Pop"-Material konnten sie die Hits nicht stoppen oder ihr Image ändern. Songs wie der jokey'Itchycoo Park' (Immediate, 1967) - ihre einzige amerikanische Top Twenty Platte - und'Lazy Sunday' (Immediate, 1968), die für Alben aufgenommen und gegen den Wunsch der Gruppe als Single veröffentlicht wurden, verschärften das Problem nur noch.

Nachdem sie 1968 die brillante Ogdens Nut Gone Flake gemacht hatte, gab Marriott auf und kam zu Peter Frampton in Humble Pie. Lane, McLagan und Jones blieben zusammen, lehnten Angebote zur Unterstützung von Solokünstlern ab und schlossen sich schließlich mit Rod Stewart und Ron Wood als den Faces zusammen.
