The Shadows

Als Begleitgruppe für Cliff Richard schlossen sich 1958 Gitarrist Hank Marvin, Gitarrist Bruce Welch, Bassist Jet Harris und Drummer Tony Meeham zu einer Gruppe zusammen, die sich The Drifters nannte. Wegen Namensstreitigkeiten mit der amerikanischen Gruppe Drifters tauften sie sich später in Shadows um.

1961 kam für Tony Meeham Brian Bennet ans Schlagzeug und Jet Harris wurde durch Brian Locking und John Rostill ersetzt. Die Shadows ernteten sowohl durch ihre Instrumental-Songs wie „Apache', „Atlantis“ oder „Frightened City' als auch als Studio-Gruppe Cliff Richards beträchtliche Erfolge. 1970 trennten sich die Shadows, um sich im November 1973 in der Besetzung Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Brian Bennet und Neuzugang John Farrar wieder zusammenzufinden. ln dieser Formation spielten sie auch ihre letzte LP „Rockin' with curly leads' ein, außerdem vertraten sie 1975 Großbritannien beim „Grand Prix de la Chanson' in Stockholm, wo sie den zweiten Platz belegten.
