Elvis Presley: Bringin' It Back - The Alternate Magazine- Nr.1

Bringin' It Back – The Alternate Magazine, No. 1, first issue, 56 pages – Vienna 1992. BRINGIN' IT BACK – Editorial, spring 1992. Hi there and welcome to BRINGIN' IT BACK, the 'alternative' Elvis magazine. Elvis might well have sung: 'Well, since Sincerely Elvis Presley left me, I've found a new mag to read... it's BRINGIN' IT BACK!' Truly first-rate treatment of the phenomenon that is Elvis Presley, in all its facets, has become as rare as the good old Suns. The four of us – Harald, Kurt, Peter and Thomas – present, with this first issue of BRINGIN' IT BACK, our approach to keeping Elvis's memory alive, there are to be no limits to the content of our little magazine: from shellac to CDs, from the '50s to the '90s, and we have imposed only a single condition on ourselves: to offer you a density of information hardly to be found in the German-speaking world, on the topics covered you will find a wealth of material that really brings Elvis closer to you – or back, as our title is meant to suggest. You are to get a magazine of the kind we would happily find more often in our own mailboxes. We sell no RCA new releases, boots, books, buttons or the like, we fill the magazine neither with adverts, promotions and flea markets nor with coverage of Lisa Marie, we tie ourselves to no deadlines – our mag appears at irregular intervals, whenever every page is filled with top-class material. From the music lover to the collector, everyone should find the topics they always wanted to see treated in full detail. Take a look at the table of contents and see for yourself the broad spectrum. All our efforts have had one aim only: to inform you in an entertaining and comprehensive way! Besides our many worldwide sources, we wish to thank just two men here. The first is written about throughout the magazine, so we'll briefly borrow the title of a Japanese CD: WE LOVE ELVIS. The second big thanks goes to a man many of you sadly won't know at all: Peter Baumann. From him we got the courage, the zeal, the attention to detail, the tenacity to really work a subject through thoroughly, he was, as trite as it may sound, our teacher in all matters of Elvis fandom, without our experiences with him as a fellow fan over all these years, BRINGIN' IT BACK would not exist – and if you like the mag, that is worth a standing ovation to Peter Baumann too. In this spirit, we hope to make a worthy contribution to Elvis Presley's memory – and as he sings so nicely: 'Memories... pressed between the pages of BRINGIN' IT BACK...' Elvisly yours, Harald, Kurt, Peter, Thomas.
