Mike Pedicin: Mike Pedicin - Rocks (CD)

1-CD (Digipak) with 36-page booklet, 30 tracks. Total playing time approx. 79 min.

Mike Pedicin ranks among the great unsung pioneers of early rock ’n’ roll. Long before Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Bill Haley became international stars, the Philadelphia-born alto saxophonist was already setting dance halls across America’s East Coast on fire. Blending swing, jump blues, rhythm & blues and the emerging sound of rock ’n’ roll, Pedicin and his explosive quintet created an irresistible style driven by his fiery saxophone, the dynamic vocals of Al Mauro and an infectious sense of excitement.

This comprehensive collection follows Pedicin’s remarkable recording career from his early 20th Century releases through his ambitious RCA Victor sessions to later recordings for Cameo, Apollo, Federal and Malvern. Classics such as Shake A Hand, Mambo Rock, You Gotta Go, Disc Jockey’s Boogie, Hotter Than A Pistol and Hey Pop Give Me The Keys reveal an artist who deserved far greater recognition. Although he scored national chart entries with The Large Large House and Shake A Hand, true superstardom remained elusive despite music that could rival the era’s biggest names.

Bear Family Records® finally gives this overlooked pioneer the tribute he deserves. Carefully restored recordings, rare masters and extensive liner notes by acclaimed rock ’n’ roll historian Bill Dahl shine a light on one of Philadelphia’s most exciting musical trailblazers. This release proves that Mike Pedicin was far more than a footnote in rock history - he was one of its genuine architects. An essential collection for rock ’n’ roll enthusiasts, collectors and anyone eager to rediscover the music’s earliest roots.

Mike Pedicin

King.
