The original mix of country, Tex-Mex, gospel, western swing and rock & roll, the fantastic quality of the studio recordings and the unique voice of Raul Malo helped this production to achieve the status of a classic from the heyday of Americana and neo-traditional country music at the turn of the millennium, which sounds even better on vinyl!

At the end of the 1980s, three school friends from Miami decided to express their enthusiasm for the music of the 1950s by forming a band. The Mavericks featuring Paul Deakin, Robert Reynolds and their charismatic singer Raul Malo were signed to MCA Records in Nashville in 1990, and their second album 'What A Crying Shame' was their breakthrough. It sold more than a million copies (platinum) in the USA alone.

This was followed by gold and silver in England for the album 'Music For All Occasions', and winning a Grammy. 'Trampoline', musically the most varied and artistically highest quality album, was also a bestseller; the single Dance the Night Away reached No. 4 in the British pop charts.

The Mavericks also gained a steadily growing fan base on the continent. Above all, the distinctive voice of Cuban-born frontman Raul Malo, reminiscent of Roy Orbison, and the extremely powerful rhythm section for a country-oriented band define the sound of the band, which is still active today.

Bear Family is releasing the innovative 'Trampoline' album on vinyl for the first time ever. In addition to the original 13 tracks on the CD, we have been able to find 4 additional masters that were released on a Japanese CD more than 25 years ago.

For collectors and fans of special editions we deliver the album in a DeLuxe gatefold cover version, pressed on virgin 180gram vinyl and exclusively in a limited and numbered edition of 1500 copies worldwide.

Raul Malo Sänger der Mavericks ist verstorben!
Mit großer Trauer haben wir bei Bear Family Records am 8. Dezember 2025 vom viel zu frühen Tod Raul Malos erfahren. Der charismatische Sänger, Gitarrist und kreative Kopf von The Mavericks wurde nur 60 Jahre alt. 1965 in Miami als Sohn kubanischer Eltern geboren, vereinte Malo in seiner Musik alles, was ihn geprägt hatte: Country, Latin, Rock, Swing und Americana verschmolzen bei ihm zu einer unverwechselbaren, lebendig pulsierenden Klangwelt. Seine warme, kraftvolle Tenorstimme wurde zum Herzschlag der Mavericks und machte die Band zu einem der eigenständigsten Acts ihres Genres.

Seit der Gründung der Band 1989 führte Malo die Mavericks mit unerschöpflicher Neugier, Ernsthaftigkeit und einer spielerischen Freude am Experiment. Songs wie All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down oder Dance The Night Away tragen unmissverständlich seine Handschrift und öffneten der Band Türen auf der ganzen Welt. Doch Raul Malo war weit mehr als ein Frontmann: Er war ein Songwriter von großer Sensibilität, ein Multiinstrumentalist mit feinem Gespür und ein Künstler, der Grenzen nicht akzeptierte, sondern erweitern wollte. Auch als Solist zeigte er beeindruckende Vielfalt und prägte Projekte wie Los Super Seven mit.

Im Juni 2024 machte Malo seine Darmkrebsdiagnose öffentlich – Beginn eines langen, schweren Weges, den er mit bewundernswerter Offenheit, Mut und Würde beschritt. Weder Operationen noch Chemotherapien oder spezialisierte Behandlungen konnten den Verlauf der seltenen und aggressiven Erkrankung aufhalten. Im Herbst 2025 mussten alle geplanten Auftritte abgesagt werden. Am Abend des 8. Dezember 2025 verlor Raul Malo diesen Kampf – und die Musikwelt eine ihrer eindringlichsten Stimmen.

Raul Malo hinterlässt ein Vermächtnis, das weit über musikalische Kategorien hinausreicht. Er war ein Brückenbauer zwischen Kulturen, ein Anwalt für Vielfalt und ein Künstler, der immer bewies, dass Musik Freiheit ist. Seine Lieder, seine Stimme und seine Leidenschaft bleiben – in den Herzen seiner Familie, seiner Weggefährten, seiner Fans und all jener, die in seiner Musik Trost, Freude oder Inspiration fanden.

Möge Raul Malo in Frieden ruhen. Seine Musik bleibt. Unser tief empfundenes Mitgefühl gilt seinen Kindern und seiner Familie.

Ende der 1980er gründeten Paul Deakin, Robert Reynolds und Raul Malo in Miami die Mavericks – inspiriert von der Musik der 1950er Jahre. Nach Vertragsabschluss bei MCA Nashville gelang der internationale Durchbruch mit What A Crying Shame:

Endlich gibt's das Album auf Vinyl! Ich habe mich immer gewundert warum das keiner gemacht hat! Das war doch in Europa richtig angesagt!! Vielen Dank Bear Family!!
