Anyone who likes Bill Haley or Stargazers (i.e. the old Northern Band sound) is guaranteed to enjoy this longplayer. The “normal” quartet line-up is joined by saxophone and piano. Sometimes it sounds like a good white cover version of an R&B rocker (but these are only original songs!), sometimes a few jazz and swing elements are added, so that fans of Ray Collins will also get their money's worth. In between there are also a few backing vocals.
The whole thing sounds like a very clean, professional recording from around 1958, when the individual styles were united to form “real” rock'n'roll. From the super fast but danceable “Hop and don't stop” (my favorite song on the CD, guaranteed to be perfect for record-hop) to the ballad, everything is included.
I was so impressed by the recordings that I “ordered” an LP in addition to the CD, because I really want to have the recordings on vinyl myself. Both come in editions of 500. In the case of the vinyl, 100 of these are in strictly limited green vinyl and 400 in black. Unfortunately, the pressing plants are so full that the “black gold” won't be ready until August. Until then, you'll have to console yourself with a CD in “vinyl look”.
