Wizz Jones is one of the protagonists of the British folk scene. The Englishman has been on the road since the end of the 1950s and his influence on many very famous colleagues cannot be overestimated. He taught Ralph McTell blues chords and fingerpicking techniques and encouraged him to write his own songs. Many of his students had far more commercial success than he himself, who is still considered an insider's tip by folk blues lovers. A gifted singer/songwriter with a velvety voice, an incredibly swinging guitarist with a highly artificial playing style, a gifted folk bluesman of the highest order who has remained true to his roots. Jones has been releasing solo albums since 1969; the song collection “Village Thing Tapes” first appeared in 1992 and contains songs from the years 1969 to 1973, plus a session recorded at Conny Plank's in 1976. It includes many original compositions, but also songs by Elton John, Mike Nesmith, Alan Turnbridge and Jesse Ballard.
