Edo Hartsteen & The Hell Cats represent the distinctive combination of rock ’n’ roll, rockabilly and Indo-Rock that became an important part of the Dutch Indo music scene. Indo Pop Vol. 6 is one of the releases documenting this musical tradition. Edo Hartsteen founded The Hell Cats in 1957 in Manokwari, then part of Dutch New Guinea. After returning to the Netherlands, he formed a new version of the band in Dordrecht in 1962. The Hell Cats subsequently also worked professionally in Germany for several years. Hartsteen remained connected with the group for decades. Indo Pop Vol. 6 was released on PMF Records in 1994. A fascinating CD for collectors of Indo-Rock and Dutch rock ’n’ roll, and for anyone interested in the history and distinctive sound of this highly individual musical scene.
