Hans Blum was born on 23.05.1928 in Hanover. In his childhood he played a lot of music with his father. He studied music at the Army Music School in Bückeburg. After the end of the war, Hans Blum came into contact with US swing and began to play in swing bands with his rescued double bass. At the beginning of the 1950s, he met his wife Ingetraut at NWDR in Hamburg, who also played on many of his recordings.

In 1951, Hans Blum founded the vocal group Das Hansen-Quartett, with whom he recorded many successful singles. His biggest solo success in the 1950s was the German version of the US hit Charly Brown (1959, number 5). Hans Blum released the single Du bist mein Typ with Rex Gildo as a duet under the name Rex & Ricky. This was followed by various records under different artist names such as Freddy Carell, Mr. Watschel, the Hansen-Septett and the Bernd Hansen-Chor. Hans Blum was also very successful for decades as a composer for the most famous German pop stars. At the end of the 70s, he was once again represented in the charts as Henry Valentino with the song Im Wagen vor mir.

Hans Blum died on 15.03.2024 in Overath near Cologne. With Hans Blum, German pop music has lost one of its most influential creators.
