This live recording from 1993 features Jack Hardy on his Italian tour and was recorded from a special soundboard to ensure maximum fidelity.

Jack Hardy was an American singer-songwriter who lived in Greenwich Village, NYC, from the mid-seventies and was a major influence on the American and European folk music scene for decades. He was cited as one of the most important influences by Suzanne Vega and John Gorka, among others. He was also the founding editor of Fast Folk Musical Magazine, which featured a complete album in every issue for 20 years and whose entire catalog is now part of Smithsonian Folkways.

Although Hardy's name never achieved the notoriety of Vega, Gorka or the many he recorded for Fast Folk (e.g. Tracy Chapman, Lyle Lovett, David Wilcox, Elliott Murphy or The Roches), he continued to build his extensive catalog of acute, well-crafted songs and was awarded the Kate Wolf Memorial Award by the World Folk Music Association in 1996.

The New York Times once wrote, "Mr. Hardy is no imitator. The words may sometimes be too clever for their own good, but they are clever. Through the repeated use of Scottish and Irish folk music and the musicality of his singing and playing, he avoids too obvious an imitation of Dylan. His voice in particular - an extremely husky, even whispery baritone, subject to very subtle control - stands out favorably."

Jack died in 2011, and during his 40-year career he remained independent, releasing 15 albums, some of which he licensed to small European labels, as he was more appreciated and revered on that continent than in the US. As a result, he toured Europe for nearly 30 years, often with his brother Jeff, who tragically died in the attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

He was a lyrical writer; his songs were political, albeit usually in a subtle way. His songs were romantic, albeit in a unique, literary way. They are all laced with a fair amount of cynicism, wit and wisdom.
