Geboren am 10. 5.1946 in Glasgow Nach einem Jahrzehnt Pop-Geschäft und 15 Langspielplatten (die jüngste erschien zu Beginn des Jahres 1975: „Tease') ist der Märchenerzähler der Popmusik wieder gut im Rennen - hatte er die ver- gangenen 2 Jahre doch lediglich zum Fast-Nichtstun benutzt. 1964 trat der sanfte Weltveränderer erstmals in der britischen TV-Show „Ready, Steady, Go' auf und wurde auf Anhieb zu einem beliebten und gefragten Star. Zu seinen großen Erfolgen gehören unter anderem die Titel „Sunshine Superman', „Season Of The Witch' (das auch Julie Driscoll Zu Erfolg verhalf), „Mellow Yellow' oder vor allem die traumhaft verspielte und Sehnsüchtige Ballade vom untergegangenen Kontinent „Atlantis'.

Seit Donovan 1970 erstmals eine elektrische Gitarre benutzte und jazzige Arrangements in Seine Songs bauen ließ, sind seine Platten auch musikalisch abwechslungsreicher als zuvor. Besonders bei seiner jüngsten Langspielplatte „Tease' nimmt der einstige Folk-Apostel Jazz-, Rock- und Gospelelemente in seine Musik auf.
