John Denver
Amerikanischer Folksänger, Gitarrist, Songschreiber und Filmschauspieler. Als John Deutschendorf 1943 in Rossell (New Mexico) geboren. Begann seine Karriere zunächst als Komponist, so unter ande-rem auch für das Folk-Trio Peter, Paul 8- Mary, das 1969 mit seinem „Leaving an a Jet Plane" einen ihrer größten Hits hatte. Nach diesem Erfolg gelang John Denver auch der eigene Durchbruch als Solist. Während der frühere Architektur-student bis dahin nur in kleinen Clubs aufgetreten war, füllte er seitdem die größten Hallen. Besonders bei älteren Amerikanern kam er gut an.

Seine gelegentlich patriotisch gefärbten Songs sprachen weniger die Jugendlichen an.
Meist singt er romantisch-verklärt von ländlicher Nostalgie, von stillen, klaren Bergseen.

1974 hatte er mit „Annie's Song" seinen bisher wohl größten Hit, der ihn auch in Europa bekannt machte. Seine gefällige, einschmeichelnde Stimme und die sanften Melodien machten ihn auch bei uns zum Star.
