Henry John Deutschendorf Jr, known professionally as John Denver, was an American singer-songwriter, activist and humanitarian who had his greatest commercial success as a solo singer. After traveling and living in numerous places, Denver, who grew up in a military family, began his music career in the late 1960s with folk music groups. Beginning in the 1970s, he was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the decade and one of the best-selling artists of the decade. Denver recorded and released about 300 songs, of which he composed about 200 himself. His 33 albums and singles went gold and platinum in the U.S. and were estimated to have sold more than 33 million copies. He sang about his enjoyment of the outdoors, his disdain for city life, his enthusiasm for music and his relationship problems. This set is from a show recorded in Cedar Rapids in December 1987. In total, Denver achieved 12 gold and four platinum albums. His best-known songs Take Me Home, Country Roads, Poems, Prayers & Promises, Annie's Song, Rocky Mountain High and Calypso are heard here.
