John Denver Rocky Mountain High - 50th Anniversary Edition (LP)

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the album and the song Rocky Mountain High, John Denver's label Windstar Records is reissuing the album in limited edition on blue vinyl. Originally released on September 15, 1972, Rocky Mountain High was Denver's first Top 10 album, driven by the self-titled single.

In 2007, the title track was named Colorado's state song. The album went platinum twice and the title song went gold. In the early 1970s, Denver was one of the first artists to use his music to convey a message to the environment, and fans responded. John understood that with a public voice comes responsibility.

The album Rocky Mountain High was written when Denver was camping in the Rocky Mountains during the Perseid meteor shower. The lyrics express the love and wonder John Denver feels for his adopted home of Colorado and speak of environmental sustainability. The second single, Prisoners, was released during the war in Vietnam and tells the story of prisoners of war. The album also features Denver's interpretations of songs by the Beatles and John Prine, and the five-song Season Suite is a reflection on the seasons.
