In the early 1970s, British guitarist and songwriter Mick Clarke made rock history with the British psychedelic blues band Killing Floor.

The band’s second album, *Out Of Uranus* (1970), is considered a milestone in the genre. However, the band broke up as early as 1972. After a stint with Daddy Longlegs, who were signed to Vertigo and Polydor, Mick Clarke moved on to SALT. SALT performed extensively, particularly live, including at the Reading Festival, and toured with Muddy Waters.

In the early 1980s, SALT evolved into the Mick Clarke Band. The prolific guitarist recorded albums both with the band (including for the German label Line Records) and as a solo artist, and toured primarily in the U.S. with Howlin’ Wolf, Freddie King, and Otis Spann. In February 2026, a 1989 performance by the Mick Clarke Band at Bremen’s Römer will be released on CD and digitally. Alongside Mick Clarke, the lineup featured Kerry Canfield (keys, vocals), Chris Lloyd-Baron (harmonica), Mick Phillips (bass, vocals), and Mike Hirsh (drums). On the program: flawless, British-influenced blues rock with a slightly gritty, raw edge. In addition to compositions by Mick Clarke, the set includes songs by Freddie King, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and Elmore James. Also outstanding is the rocking, swinging, slightly playful version of the Leiber/Stoller classic “Kansas City”!
