Jo Ann Campbell had it all looks, talent, and great records. In just two years she went from a wide-eyed fan at an Alan Freed rock n roll revue to becoming one of Freeds most popular stars. She performed for thousands of fans, proving that she could rock just as hard as any of her male contemporaries, and she wrote her own songs and recorded numbers by some of the top songwriters of the day. Although she only scored a few national hits, her recordings for Eldorado, Gone, Rori and ABC-Paramount mixed a cute, girl-next-door charm with lusty, growling rock n roll vocals in such classics as Come On Baby, You re Drivin Me Mad, Wassa Matter With You Baby, Mama (Can I Go Out Tonite), Boogie Woogie Country Girl and many more.

Tolle CD

1960 hatte Jo Ann Campbell mit "A Kookie Little Paradise" ihren ersten Hit, zwei Jahre später folgte "I'm The Girl From Wolverton Mountain". Doch schon im Februar 1956 hatte sie Aufnahmen in New York für das Point-Label eingespielt. Country war nie ihr Ding, sie wuchs mit Rhythm & Blues auf und bekam so auch das richtige Gefühl für Rock'n'Roll. Ihre ersten Platten waren allesamt immer nur regional erfolgreich, aber sie tourte mit Larry Williams, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Mickey And Sylvia oder den Crickets. Sie bekam einen Auftritt in dem Film "Go Johnny Go", in dem sie das von Bo Diddley geschriebene "Mama, Can I Go Out Tonight" sang. Diese CD in der Reihe "Juke Box Pearls" enthält 37 ihrer rockigen Aufnahmen incl. "Tall Boy", "Boogie Woogie Country Girl" oder "Wassa Matter With You Baby". Die beiden Songs "Breaking Up With A Boy" und "Applause To You" waren bislang unveröffentlicht. Tolles Booklet mit 44 Seiten.
