This album reminds of an underrated singer. Inge Brandenburg played with stars like Dexter Gordon, Art Taylor and Wolfgang Dauner and recorded (German) jazz classics that belong to the highlights of the genre. The bundled estate with many rare recordings also contains excursions into the Schlagerfach.

His cinematic biographies about the great composer and producer Bert Kaempfert and the singers Alexandra and Gitte have made Marc Boettcher from Berlin known to millions of viewers. At the center of his current work is another singer: Inge Brandenburg. Bear Family reminds of the eternally underrated exceptional artist with an impressive CD.

Her career began in the Eugen Weigel Combo. After countless tours at home and abroad, she made her breakthrough at the 6th German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt in 1958. However, there were no major commitments. Successes at competitions in Juan-les-Pins 1960 ('Best European Jazz Singer') and in Knokke did far too little to change this. Recordings for Decca (with Werner Müller), Polydor and CBS followed. Performances with stars such as Slide Hampton, Dexter Gordon, Jimmy Woode, Art Taylor and Philly Joe Jones underlined the above-average reputation of the singer, who also integrated hits into her repertoire.

Disillusioned, Inge Brandenburg finally switched to acting, acting on stages in Hamburg, Berlin and Nuremberg. Concerts like with Wolfgang Dauner (1966 and 1968) remained sporadic exceptions. Afterwards, the artist withdrew into private life. In 1999 she died, almost unnoticed, in Munich.
