The Blues Image is still led by founding member, vocalist and guitarist Mike Pinera (who joined Iron Butterfly immediately after the band broke up), who is now backed by Michael Franklin (keyboards and vocals), Tim Franklin (bass and vocals), Eddie Metz Jr. and Greg Alban (drums). For their comeback album "Next Voyage", which they recorded at Solar Studios in Orlando, Florida, they brought in top-class guests such as Pat Travers on guitar and Jonathan Cain from Journey on Wurlitzer electric piano as well as a large group of singers (Randie Paul, Suzie Park and Naomi Bradshaw) and instrumentalists, including horns, strings and choir. Prog blues ("Butterfly Blue", "Pay My Dues", preceded by a fugue), pop ("Something To Say") and echoes of Zeppelin (the strings of "Isla" recall those of "Kashmir") are interwoven with a cover version of Iron Butterfly's "In A Gadda Da Vida" and a long "Captain's Suite", which leads into a reworking of "Ride Captain Ride", the hit that took the band into the American Billboard Top 5 in 1970.
