Gunnar Winckler: Tanze mit mir einen Tango (2-CD)

(MusicTales) 46 tracks

Gunnar Winckler was born on 13.10.1925 as Gustav Winckler in Copenhagen, Denmark. The young Winckler first sang in a children's choir, later in a youth choir. At the end of the 1940s he gave small performances in Denmark, where he was discovered for the Danish Radio Copenhagen.

In 1954 he sang at the European Festival in Echternach/Luxembourg. In 1957 he and his singing partner Birthe Wilke were the first Danes to take part in the Grand Prix d' Eurovision. In the same year Gunnar Winkler and his Swedish duet partner Bibi Johns had their first charter success in Germany with Das Schiff geht in See heute' Nacht (21st place). The title remained in the charts for 8 weeks.

Gunnar Winckler released a number of other successful singles in his home country Denmark and especially in Germany, such as In the Middle of Samoa (1957), Angel Baby (1958) or Fly Little Bluebird, which, however, did not make it into the charts. With the title Tanze mit mir einen Tango he achieved the only charter success as a solo singer in Germany (1962, place 48).
