My favourite place in all the world… might be the forester's lodge deep in the green firs, the spot close to one's devoted mother, a haven of security on native soil. Home, mother, forest solitude: these are notions that can stir deep feelings of longing within us. And there are recurring times when there is plainly a certain need for sentiment – to which the record market, of all things, responds very quickly. In the years of the economic miracle, when people had to work hard, grand emotions were an unaffordable luxury, if only for lack of time. So the love stories in the penny novels were bestsellers, as were the tabloid picture magazines – and records, of course, profited from this emotional boom too.

Even if many critics dismissed the whole thing as 'kitsch', it did one good, after the stress of a hard day's work, to put on records that sang of homesickness or of the quiet brook in the meadow where the 'forester's little daughter' lived. Also popular was a fine folk-style song that – to a slow ländler melody – told of one's late mother… On three CDs, in original recordings from the fifties and sixties, Bear Family Records® presents 75 stories full of heart and heartache. A sensational feast for listeners of good taste: Das alte Försterhaus, Eine Handvoll Heimaterde, Das Glück liegt in der Mutter Hände.
