The oldie exchange at Bremen Eins went on air in 1995 and still provides profound assistance in the search for oldies every first Monday of the month! Reason enough for the programme inventor Dirk Böhling to talk to the Beat Club presenter and occasional Oldiebörsen representative Lutz Hanker about whether what they are doing is actually already cult...

Lutz Hanker: How did it actually start with the Oldieb stock exchange back then?

Dirk Böhling: Strictly speaking in a hotel bar - I love hotel bars! Thomas Schönherr was restaurant manager in the hotel where I was staying and when he started talking about music, the idea for the show was already finished in my head! A music expert finds hidden record treasures for our listeners and can also tell something about every title... I found that exciting! You've done the show several times already - how does it feel to you?

Lutz Hanker: Like when I was a little boy, I secretly listened to the radio under the covers and discovered new worlds. Like a kind of truffle pig on a musical journey through time. And a bit like a detective, because in every show we go on a treasure hunt and try to solve a riddle and put a puzzle together. The show is something very special, something unique.

Dirk Böhling: Is that a kind of cult for you what we do here?

Lutz Hanker: Well, that term is used so often today. As an old Latin, I know that cult actually means worship of the gods - we would rather not go that far. But if we see the show as a very sociable ceremony of music freaks gathering in front of a virtual campfire once a month, then yes.

When I met Thomas Schönherr in 1995 in a hotel bar in Bremen, I could not know what the consequences of this encounter would be. The relaxed appointment to perhaps do something 'oldies' together on the radio became a long and successful cooperation and a radio format that is unparalleled in Germany. Today the OLDIE-BÖRSE is a guarantor for the successful search for lost record treasures and a pool of rarities of rock and pop history of past decades. Bremen's largest record collector became a reliable contact in the search for titles - Thomas Schönherr meticulously and passionately searched and found everything that many people had grown in heart and ear musically for his listeners. Countless letters, faxes and emails testify to the gratitude and joy of our 'customers', who are now scattered far beyond our broadcasting area.

Thomas Schönherr and Dirk Böhling, the Oldie Stock Exchange team on 'bremen eins', have released several CD albums for Bear Family with acoustic rarities that not only make the hearts of radio listeners beat faster:

Schöne Oldies - Klasse Klangqualität

Die Zusammenstellung der Musiktitel ist sehr gut, wenngleich ich mir gewünscht hätte, dass der Song "Israel" in englischsprachiger Version auf dem Sampler aufgeführt würde. Was mich sehr beeindruckt hat, ist die reine Klangqualität der CD. Das hat man nicht immer bei Oldie-CD's.
