Going Down South Blues Sampler, Vol. 2 is a 17-track blues compilation released by Inside Sounds in 2005, presenting a broad selection of music connected with the American Mid-South blues tradition. The collection moves from the stark sounds associated with the Mississippi Delta toward the electric blues atmosphere of Memphis. Featured artists include Robert Belfour, Blind Mississippi Morris & Brad Webb, Daddy Mack Orr, Richard Johnston & Jessie Mae Hemphill, Willie Foster, Billy Gibson, Mose Vinson and others. The tracklist includes Old Black Mattie, Country Days, Goin' Back to Memphis, Chicken and Gravy, Hoochie Coochie Man, Bad Boy, Rock 'N' Roll Blues and Swing Low Sweet Chariot. The available release information notes that most of the 17 tracks had not previously been released, while the compilation also includes rare performances by Big Lucky Carter, Mose Vinson and Willie Foster. FOMO for blues collectors: this is a varied document of the Mid-South blues scene, bringing together 17 different performances on one CD. For listeners interested in regional blues, Memphis music and lesser-known recordings, this Inside Sounds compilation offers plenty to discover. If authentic blues belongs in your collection, this is one release worth keeping an eye on.
