Its heroes were still chosen and not, as today, mostly self-selected protagonists. The focus on soloists or the front man of a band and the superficial visualization did not stop at the increasingly permeable musical boundaries. With respectable videos, staged appearances in the media and live performances, Ralf Bursy, IC or Jessica (including Tino Eisbrenner) established themselves as pop stars. Their meteoric rise was followed by a rapid fading after 1990, when the pop world was able to broadcast its gifts unfiltered to the eastern part of Germany.
